Troubleshooting

Fix common issues

Guides are color-coded by severity (red = critical, amber = moderate, green = minor).

QuickBooks or Xero connection failures

critical

Symptoms: You can’t connect, permissions fail, or the integration disconnects.

  1. Confirm you can log into QuickBooks or Xero directly (outside mybalancingIQ).
  2. Re-try the connection flow and approve requested permissions.
  3. If you have multiple company files, ensure the correct one is selected.
  4. If it still fails, contact support with the error message and timestamp.

Empty dashboard (no data showing)

critical

Symptoms: The dashboard loads but metrics/cards show empty or placeholders.

  1. Confirm your bookkeeping connection is active.
  2. Wait a bit—first syncs can take time depending on data volume.
  3. Refresh the page and revisit the dashboard.
  4. If still empty after a reasonable wait, contact support.

  2. Add context (goal, constraint, or what decision you’re making).
  3. Ensure your Business Profile is complete.
  4. Try reframing: ask for a short list of hypotheses + what to check next.

  1. Check whether recent months have unusual seasonality or one-off events.
  2. Verify key categories are mapped correctly in your books.
  3. Use Look-back mode to identify what changed month over month.
  4. If you suspect a data issue, contact support with examples.

Competitors look wrong

  1. Confirm your industry and positioning details in the Business Profile.
  2. Provide a clearer description of your target customer and offering.
  3. List 2–3 known competitors to anchor the analysis.
  4. Re-run competitor analysis after updating the profile.

Tips

Best practices

A few habits that improve clarity, accuracy, and outcomes.

Invara prompting

  • Ask specific questions and include a timeframe.
  • Request “top 3 drivers” or “top 3 risks” to get structured answers.
  • If you want actions, ask for a short plan with 3–5 steps.

Health Score habits

  • Review weekly or monthly—avoid overreacting to daily noise.
  • Use drops as a cue to investigate changes in cash flow, margin, or collections.

Profile maintenance

  • Update your Business Profile when your goals or business model changes.
  • Keep your industry and positioning current for better recommendations.

Competitor Analysis cadence

  • Revisit monthly or quarterly, not daily.
  • Use it before pricing changes, positioning updates, or new marketing campaigns.

Security best practices

  • Use strong, unique passwords and enable MFA if available.
  • Invite collaborators via roles rather than sharing credentials.
